EMERGENCY DENTISTRY

Smile Center Ohio offers urgent and emergency dental care services for all ages. Because dental emergencies often require same-day attention, our goal is to ensure an efficient care process to get you out of pain and deliver the peace of mind you need.

Some of the dental emergencies in Delaware, OH that we treat include situations like:

  • Severe toothaches
  • Abscesses
  • Swelling or bleeding
  • Broken, chipped, and knocked-out teeth
  • Broken dental work
  • Orthodontic emergencies

Even if you’re not currently a patient of our practice, we can provide you with emergency care. Most dental emergencies need to be treated by a dentist rather than a hospital. However, if you’re experiencing severe facial swelling, a suspected broken jaw, or uncontrollable bleeding, call 911 and go directly to the nearest emergency room.

What About After Hours Emergencies?

If you call our office after hours, your message will be forwarded to one of our staff, who monitors all incoming emergency calls. Depending on the situation and urgency, we can then connect you with one of our dentists.

At Home Pain Relief

Here are some effective ways to minimize tooth pain at home before you can see a dentist for treatment:

  • Take an anti-inflammatory (Motrin, ibuprofen) as directed
  • Apply a cold compress to that side of your mouth
  • Rinse with warm salt water
  • Floss around your tooth to remove debris
  • Avoid chewing on that side of your mouth

If You Break or Knock Out a Tooth

Broken and knocked-out teeth need to be handled in a specific manner so that we can attempt to re-attach them as soon as possible. For best results, locate the tooth fragment and immediately store it in a sealed container, covering it with saline, contact solution, or milk. If none of those are available, use tap water but be sure to add a pinch of salt. Bring the tooth with you to our office. The earlier we’re able to see you, the more likely the tooth can be preserved.

For fully knocked-out teeth, take care not to touch the root of the tooth. Only handle it by the crown (the portion of the tooth you normally see above the gum tissues.) If there is visible debris, hold the tooth under a gentle stream of running water to remove it. If possible, place the tooth directly back into the socket and bite down on a clean napkin or cloth to apply firm pressure. Otherwise, store it as mentioned above. For best results, we need to see you within the next 1-2 hours.
